Raw Hemp Seed Alfredo Sauce

Being dairy-free, but wanting a creamy sauce is sometimes a bit of a challenge. Luckily for me things like cashews and hemp seeds can quickly and easily be turned into a delicious sauce that’s really comparable to what it’s trying to replace.

I saw this hemp seed alfredo sauce on the Raw Project and wanted to make it to pour on top of steamed vegetables, which sometimes taste a little bland without a little something extra.

So cutting the recipe in half and tweaking it ever so slightly left me with something the paired beautifully over steamed broccoli, cauliflower and peas – not leaving me wanting something more. With some healthy fats and a small amount of protein, it helps make the vegetables more filling than just chowing down on them on their own.

Raw Hemp Seed Alfredo
serves 3-4

  • 1/2 c. shelled hemp seeds
  • 1/2 T. lemon juice
  • 1/2 T. coconut vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1-2 t. yellow mustard
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1.5 T. nutritional yeast
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1-2 t. dried basil
  • S&P, to taste

Combine all the ingredients in a small blender and blend until smooth, adding more water to thin, if necessary.

Pour 1-2 heaping tablespoonfuls over steamed vegetables, salad, or zucchini pasta, and enjoy!
